Demmer Calls on Walz, House Democrats to Vote Against DISCLOSE Act

(Hayfield, MN)- Republican Congressional Candidate State Representative Randy Demmer (MN-01) today called on Tim Walz and other House Democrats to vote “no” on the DISCLOSE Act, which is tentatively scheduled for a vote in the House this Thursday, with the following statement:

“The DISCLOSE Act is yet another example of the special interest politics as usual that we’ve unfortunately grown accustomed to Washington. This bill would restrict free speech by placing onerous and costly regulations on industry groups, membership associations, and individual companies seeking to take advantage of their legal right to have an impact on legislation and elections – a right recently upheld by the Supreme Court.

This administration and the Congressional leadership that Tim Walz supports are attempting to legislate around the Constitution and selectively benefit their friends and muzzle their opposition with the mid-term elections just ahead. On the campaign trail in 2008, Americans were promised change from politics as usual, but instead, we are now offered legislation that actually codifies and amplifies the importance of special interest power.”

It is because Tim Walz and his colleagues in Congress have failed to deliver on their promises of change and have instead turned back to playing political games instead of governing that I am confident that the American voters will seek out new leadership this November.”
