Demmer Joins Owatonna Business Owners for Round Table Discussion
Republican Congressional candidate Randy Demmer met with a small group of business owners in Owatonna this morning for a “Round Table” discussion of the region’s economy, job creation, and the role of the federal government.
“Congressman Tim Walz and the Democrat leadership he supports in Washington are out of touch with the main street businesses here in Southern Minnesota,” Demmer said. “What I heard this morning – and what I’ve been told throughout the course of the campaign – is that government needs to get control of its spending – just like families and businesses have had to during these challenging economic times.”
“The uncertainty and instability created by the government takeover of health care, legislation that imposes additional regulations and costs on community banks, and the lack of any kind of plan to deal with the nation’s mounting debt is having a chilling effect on job creation,” Demmer added. “The best way to revive the economy and create jobs is to get government out the way, reduce out of control spending, and encourage private sector growth and development.”
Participants in the discussion expressed their frustration with Congress’ approach to the economy. One stated: “We just don’t believe the math anymore. We don’t see any results from the trillions of dollars of debt we’ve incurred, so why are we still spending even more money we don’t have?” He quickly added: “Businesses can’t expand or add jobs or purchase equipment based on temporary government programs or emergency spending. We need to see real improvement in the economy and in the business environment before we can make any long-term commitments – and the policies this Congress and Administration are pushing through are taking us in the wrong direction.”
Demmer concluded the discussion by thanking the participants for their active involvement and awareness. “Congressman Walz talks a lot on the campaign trail about fiscal responsibility because he knows that he’s in for a tough time this fall. Unfortunately for him, his rhetoric just doesn’t match with his votes,” Demmer said. “The fact is that he has helped take us down a path toward more government control, more wasteful spending, and put our children and grandchildren farther and farther into debt. People in Southern Minnesota see this, and they will hold him accountable with their votes this November.”
